Home fries are a basic potato dish made by pan- or skillet-frying chunked, sliced, wedged, or diced potatoes, sometimes left unpeeled. The potatoes may be partially cooked beforehand by boiling, baking, steaming, or microwaving before the final frying step, and the dish is known by other names including fried potatoes, house fries, and Bratkartoffeln in German. It is sometimes used in place of hash browns on menus.
