Festival, also called Jamaican festival, is a type of deep fried bread typical of Jamaican cuisine, made from a dough of wheat flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, milk products, butter, sugar, and water, fried in vegetable oil until golden brown, crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. Despite its slightly sweet taste it is served as a savory side dish alongside escovitch fish, seafood, or jerk chicken, as well as eaten as a breakfast item and street food. A related fried dough, sorullos or sorullitos de maiz, is found in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
