Jianbing guozi is a popular Chinese street food that originated in Tianjin. The term was first documented in the Tianjin Ta Kung Pao newspaper on November 20, 1933, though the exact origin of the name has not been verified. In June 2017 the skill of making jianbing guozi was added to Tianjin's municipal intangible cultural heritage list, and it is described as one of China's most beloved street breakfasts, especially in Tianjin and the neighboring province of Hebei. It is a sub-category of the broader jianbing pancake and consists of a pancake made from mung bean flour and eggs, filled with youtiao, and served with sweet bean sauce, diced green onion, and optionally chili sauce.
