Güllaç

Güllaç is a Turkish dessert of milk, rose water, pomegranate and a thin pastry, considered by some an ancestor of baklava for its similarly layered construction; it uses cornstarch and wheat flour today, though it was originally made with wheat starch alone. Its first known mention appears in the 14th-century Chinese Mongol court manual Yinshan Zhenyao. It is especially associated with Ramadan, when demand is high enough that a single Turkish manufacturer reported selling 230 tons of it in 2019.
