Plum

A plum is the fruit of certain species in the subgenus Prunus, with dried plums usually called prunes. Plums are likely to have been among the first fruits domesticated by humans, with origins in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus Mountains and China, and are a diverse group of species whose trees can reach 5 to 6 meters in height when pruned; the fruit is a drupe with firm, juicy flesh, eaten fresh, dried into prunes, used in jams, or fermented into wine and distilled into brandy, though plum seeds contain the cyanide-like poison amygdalin. In 2023, China produced 55 percent of the world total of plums.
