Tomato chutney

Condiments, Sauces and Fermented Flavorings

Tomato chutney is a chutney originating in the Indian subcontinent made primarily from diced, mashed or pulped tomatoes combined with ingredients such as ginger, chili, sugar and salt, with South Indian variants adding onion, garlic, peanuts or lentils, and can be eaten fresh, refrigerated, or preserved by bottling or canning. It is associated with Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani cuisines and can be made from either ripe red or unripe green tomatoes. It has been commercially mass-produced since at least the 1890s to 1900s, including by companies such as Gordon and Dilworth of New York, which exported it.
