Feni

Feni is a distilled spirit from the Indian state of Goa, made in two main varieties, cashew feni, distilled from the fermented juice of the cashew apple, the fruit attached to the cashew nut, and coconut feni, distilled from fermented coconut palm sap or toddy. Cashew feni is the more widely known of the two and has been produced in Goa since the Portuguese colonial period, when cashew trees were introduced to the region. Feni holds a protected geographical indication tied to Goa, and it remains strongly associated with Goan identity and hospitality, traditionally distilled in small batches using simple earthen or copper stills.
