Quail Egg

Dairy and Egg Products

Quail eggs are small eggs eaten and considered a delicacy in many parts of the world, including Asia, Europe and North America, notably smaller than chicken or duck eggs. In Japan they are used raw or cooked as tamago in sushi and are a common feature of bento lunches; in South America they top hot dogs and hamburgers, Southeast Asian street vendors sell them as snacks and on skewered satay, and East Asian markets braise them with rice or sell them as packaged convenience foods. Vietnamese vendors sell boiled quail eggs as a beer snack, and Philippine street food includes a battered, deep-fried version called kwek-kwek. While still an exotic item in some Western markets, quail eggs are an ordinary, affordable food across much of Asia and South America.
