Feijoa is the fruit of Acca sellowiana, a shrub native to the highlands of southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and northern Argentina, also widely known as pineapple guava despite not being a true guava. The fruit is oval and green skinned with a granular, aromatic flesh often compared to a combination of pineapple, guava and strawberry. Though native to South America, feijoa became especially popular in New Zealand after its introduction there in the twentieth century, where it is now closely associated with home gardens and a distinct late-autumn harvest season.
