Pomelo, also spelled pummelo, is the largest citrus fruit, Citrus maxima, native to Southeast Asia and one of the ancestral citrus species from which the modern grapefruit was later developed as a hybrid. Its thick, spongy rind protects a coarse-textured flesh that ranges from pale yellow to pink, generally sweeter and less bitter than grapefruit. Pomelo is eaten fresh, often peeled as a snack or added to fruit salads, and it plays a significant symbolic role in several Asian traditions, including Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations in China and Vietnam and Lunar New Year offerings.
