Kielbasa is the general Polish word for sausage, used internationally to refer specifically to Polish-style sausages, most commonly a smoked pork sausage seasoned with garlic and marjoram. The sausage is typically sold fully or partially cooked and smoked, and is prepared by grilling, pan frying, boiling or baking, often served with sauerkraut, mustard and rye bread. Kielbasa became a widely recognized ingredient in the United States and other countries with large Polish immigrant communities, where it is commonly sold in a curved, ring-shaped link.
