Cilok

Noodle and Dumpling Dishes

Cilok is an Indonesian ball-shaped snack made from tapioca starch, originating in West Java and associated especially with Sundanese cuisine, though also popular in Banten and Jakarta. Its name derives from the Sundanese phrase aci dicolok, meaning poked tapioca, referring to how the balls are traditionally pierced on skewers of coconut palm. The tapioca balls are boiled or deep-fried to a chewy texture similar to Japanese dango, though savory rather than sweet, and are commonly sold by street vendors in plastic pouches with peanut sauce, sambal or sweet soy sauce.
