Herbes de Provence is a blend of dried herbs associated with the cuisine of the Provence region of southeastern France, typically combining thyme, rosemary, savory, oregano and marjoram, with some commercial versions also including lavender flowers, an addition not traditionally part of regional Provencal cooking. The blend is used to season grilled meats, roasted vegetables and stews, and is more a modern commercial marketing convention, developed in the twentieth century, than a single fixed historical recipe from the region itself. It remains one of the most widely recognized French herb blends internationally.
