Uziza, also called Ashanti pepper, Benin pepper, Edo pepper or oziza, is a spice derived from the dried fruit of Piper guineense, a West African species of pepper plant closely related to cubeb pepper and a relative of black pepper and long pepper. Its grains are smaller, smoother and more prolate spheroid in shape than cubeb pepper, generally bear a reddish tinge, and grow on distinctly curved stalks rather than the straight stalks of cubeb pepper.
