Pone is a baked or fried bread of American cuisine, particularly associated with the cuisine of the Southern United States and, earlier, the Thirteen Colonies. It is most often made from cornmeal, though sweet potato and other variations exist, and it is traditionally baked in a cast iron skillet or fried into a small round loaf about the size of a biscuit. The basic corn pone batter is also the base for related preparations such as johnnycakes, corn dodgers and hush puppies.
