Shkedei marak

Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes

Shkedei marak, Hebrew for soup almonds and also called mandlakh in Yiddish or soup mandels and soup nuts in the United States, is an Israeli food product made of small yellow squares of flour and palm oil, described as a crisp mini crouton used as a soup accompaniment. Despite the name, the product contains no actual almonds. It is a parve food, meaning it carries no meat or dairy status under Jewish dietary law, so it can be added to either a meat soup or a cream soup alike.
