Pempek, also called mpek-mpek or, colloquially, empek-empek, is a savory Indonesian fishcake made of fish and tapioca, originating in Palembang, South Sumatra. It is served with a rich sweet and sour sauce called kuah cuka or kuah cuko, and is sometimes eaten with yellow noodles and diced cucumber to balance the vinegars sourness, or with added chili powder for spiciness.
