A balti, or balti gosht, is a style of curry served in the United Kingdom in a thin pressed-steel wok called a balti bowl, cooked quickly over high heat with vegetable oil rather than ghee and a sauce of garlic, onions and warm spices such as turmeric and garam masala. The style emerged in Birmingham, England, in the 1970s, giving rise to the city's Balti Triangle restaurant district.
