Maafe, also known as peanut stew or groundnut stew, is a staple food stew of Western Africa originating from Senegal. It is often confused with tigadeguena, a similarly named peanut stew of the Mandinka and Bambara people of Mali served with Malian fufu, but the two have distinct origins: maafe is a dish from the colonial era, while the concept of peanuts itself was historically unknown in Mali outside the native Bambara groundnut.
