Palaver sauce, also called palava sauce, kontonmire, kentumere, nkontommire or pla'sas, is a stew widely eaten in West Africa, including Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Its name comes from palaver, meaning a lengthy talk, debate or quarrel, by way of the Portuguese palavra, and one theory holds the name reflects how its many spices mingle together like raised voices in an argument.
