Alitame is an aspartic acid containing dipeptide sweetener developed by Pfizer in the early 1980s and marketed in some countries under the brand name Aclame. Most dipeptides are not sweet, and its development followed the unexpected 1965 discovery that the dipeptide aspartame was intensely sweet, which prompted a search for similar compounds sharing that property.
