Balaleet, also spelled balalit, is a sweet and savory dish of Eastern Arabian cuisine made from vermicelli noodles cooked with sugar, cardamom, rose water and saffron and topped with an egg omelette, sometimes with sauteed onions or potatoes added. It is commonly eaten for breakfast in Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar, and holds particular significance as the first meal served on the morning of Eid al-Fitr.
