Bolo do caco is a round flatbread traditionally made on the Portuguese islands of Madeira and Porto Santo. Its name comes from its cake-like shape, since bolo means cake, and from the caco, a flat basalt stone slab it is traditionally cooked on. It is usually served with garlic butter or eaten as a sandwich, filled with octopus, espetada skewered beef, fried cornmeal known as milho frito, or steak in what is called a prego sandwich.
