The shade depends on the amount of molasses used, ranging from light brown at about 3.5 percent molasses to dark brown at about 6.5 percent, and because it caramelizes more readily than refined sugar it works well in glazes and gravies, while its hygroscopic quality keeps baked goods moist and chewy, a property bakers rely on for products such as chocolate chip cookies. Per 100 grams it provides about 380 calories.Brown SugarConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)Brown SugarFilter Results12 entriesDish FamilyAllConfections and Candies (3)East Asian Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)European Breads and Pastries (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (2)North American Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (2)Southeast Asian Noodles and Dumplings (1)Southeast Asian Rice and Grain Dishes (1)Southeast Asian Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)CuisineAllAmerican Cuisine (2)Chilean Cuisine (1)Chinese Cuisine (1)Colombian Cuisine (1)Cuban Cuisine (1)Dutch Cuisine (2)Filipino Cuisine (3)Ukrainian Cuisine (1)Era (Origin Period)All1800 (1)1810 (1)1878 (1)1951 (1)TraditionAllStreet Food Culture (3)Wedding Feast Traditions (1)Format/TypeAllConfections and Candies (3)East Asian Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)European Breads and Pastries (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (2)North American Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (2)Southeast Asian Noodles and Dumplings (1)Southeast Asian Rice and Grain Dishes (1)Southeast Asian Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)CourseAllDessert (6)Main Course (1)Snack or Street Food (2)Dietary SuitabilityAllContains Dairy or Egg (3)Contains Meat or Poultry (1)Origin RegionAllChina (1)Finland (1)Latin America (1)Netherlands (2)Philippines (3)Ukraine (1)United States (2)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 12Banana cueBrown SugarBananas FosterBrown SugarCocadaBrown SugarCowboy BeansBrown SugarFilipino SpaghettiBrown SugarHoneycomb toffeeBrown SugarHotteokBrown SugarKalamayBrown SugarKruidnotenBrown SugarMedivnykBrown SugarSalty liquoriceBrown SugarStroopwafelBrown SugarConnectionsAssociated WithSugar, Ingredients Well-attested Used ByBanana cue, Dishes Well-attested Source Banana cue (Wikipedia)Bananas Foster, Dishes Well-attested Source Bananas Foster (Wikipedia)Cocada, Dishes Well-attested Source Cocada (Wikipedia)Cowboy Beans, Dishes Well-attested Source Cowboy beans (Wikipedia)Filipino Spaghetti, Dishes Well-attested Source Filipino spaghetti (Wikipedia)Honeycomb toffee, Dishes Well-attested Source Honeycomb toffee (Wikipedia)Hotteok, Dishes Well-attested Source Hotteok (Wikipedia)Kalamay, Dishes Well-attested Source Kalamay (Wikipedia)Kruidnoten, Dishes Well-attested Source Kruidnoten (Wikipedia)Medivnyk, Dishes Well-attested Source Medivnyk (Wikipedia)Salty liquorice, Dishes Well-attested Source Salty liquorice (Wikipedia)Stroopwafel, Dishes Well-attested Source Stroopwafel (Wikipedia)SourcesFilipino spaghetti (Wikipedia)Used By: Filipino Spaghetti, Infobox main_ingredient field: Spaghetti, tomato sauce, tomato paste, banana ketchup, brown sugar or condensed milk, giniling, hot dogs, cheeseView the SourceBananas Foster (Wikipedia)Used By: Bananas Foster, Infobox main_ingredient field: Bananas, vanilla ice cream, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, dark rum, banana liqueurView the SourceCowboy beans (Wikipedia)Used By: Cowboy Beans, Infobox main_ingredient field: Beans (usually pinto, black-eyed), onion powder, ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, milk, flourView the SourceCocada (Wikipedia)Used By: Cocada, Infobox main_ingredient field: Eggs, shredded coconut, food coloring, sugar, brown sugar, coconut milk, condensed milk, fruit syrupView the SourceHotteok (Wikipedia)Used By: Hotteok, Infobox main_ingredient field: Dough: wheat flour, water, milk, sugar, yeast; Filling: brown sugar, honey, peanuts, cinnamonView the SourceBanana cue (Wikipedia)Used By: Banana cue, Infobox main_ingredient field: Saba banana, brown sugar, cooking oilView the SourceKalamay (Wikipedia)Used By: Kalamay, Infobox main_ingredient field: Coconut milk, glutinous rice, brown sugarView the SourceKruidnoten (Wikipedia)Used By: Kruidnoten, Infobox main_ingredient field: Flour, Brown sugar, Butter, Pepper, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cloves, Cardamom, NutmegView the SourceMedivnyk (Wikipedia)Used By: Medivnyk, Infobox main_ingredient field: Buckwheat honey, flour, brown sugar, eggs, orange rindView the SourceHoneycomb toffee (Wikipedia)Used By: Honeycomb toffee, Infobox main_ingredient field: Brown sugar, corn syrup (or molasses or golden syrup), baking sodaView the SourceStroopwafel (Wikipedia)Used By: Stroopwafel, Infobox food/dish main_ingredient fieldView the SourceSalty liquorice (Wikipedia)Used By: Salty liquorice, Infobox food/dish main_ingredient fieldView the SourceComments (0)No comments yet.
