It is high in saturated fatty acids and contains no trans fats, and is typically sold in paper wrapped blocks at retail. Historically lard was a primary cooking fat and shortening in many cuisines, used much like butter, and it remains valued in savory dishes such as sausages and pates and for producing especially flaky pastry crusts; although Western cuisines shifted toward vegetable oils, professional cooks and bakers have rediscovered its culinary advantages since the 1990s and 2000s.LardConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)LardFilter Results10 entriesDish FamilyAllEast Asian Noodles and Dumplings (1)European Breads and Pastries (1)European Noodles and Dumplings (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (3)European Sandwiches (1)Latin American and Caribbean Breads and Pastries (1)Latin American and Caribbean Starch Dishes (1)North American Breads and Pastries (1)CuisineAllAustrian Cuisine (1)Caribbean Cuisine (1)Chinese Cuisine (1)Hungarian Cuisine (1)Italian Cuisine (2)Mexican Cuisine (1)Polish Cuisine (3)Romanian Cuisine (1)Serbian Cuisine (2)Ukrainian Cuisine (1)Era (Origin Period)All1508 (1)1644 (1)1800 (1)TraditionAllBread Baking (3)Nixtamalization (1)Street Food Culture (3)Yum Cha (1)Format/TypeAllEast Asian Noodles and Dumplings (1)European Breads and Pastries (1)European Noodles and Dumplings (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (3)European Sandwiches (1)Latin American and Caribbean Breads and Pastries (1)Latin American and Caribbean Starch Dishes (1)North American Breads and Pastries (1)CourseAllDessert (1)Snack or Street Food (2)Soup (1)Dietary SuitabilityAllContains Meat or Poultry (2)Origin RegionAllChina (1)Italy (2)Mexico (1)North America (1)Poland (2)Puerto Rico (1)Serbia (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 10ČvarciLardFrybreadLardKotlet schabowyLardMofongoLardObwarzanek krakowskiLardPani câ meusaLardPljeskavicaLardSeadaLardTlayudaLardXiaolongbaoLardConnectionsAssociated WithShortening, Ingredients Well-attested Used ByČvarci, Dishes Well-attested Source Čvarci (Wikipedia)Frybread, Dishes Well-attested Source Frybread - WikipediaKotlet schabowy, Dishes Well-attested Source Kotlet schabowy (Wikipedia)Mofongo, Dishes Well-attested Source Mofongo (Wikipedia)tier 3Obwarzanek krakowski, Dishes Well-attested Source Obwarzanek krakowski (Wikipedia)Pani câ meusa, Dishes Well-attested Source Pani ca meusa (Wikipedia)Pljeskavica, Dishes Well-attested Source Pljeskavica (Wikipedia)tier 3Seada, Dishes Well-attested Source Seada (Wikipedia)Tlayuda, Dishes Well-attested Source Tlayuda - WikipediaXiaolongbao, Dishes Well-attested Source Xiaolongbao (Wikipedia)tier 3SourcesXiaolongbao (Wikipedia)tier 3WikipediaUsed By: Xiaolongbao, Infobox main_ingredient field: Flour dough, minced pork or other meats, lard, gelatinView the SourceMofongo (Wikipedia)tier 3WikipediaUsed By: Mofongo, Infobox main_ingredient field: Plantains, chicharrón, cooking oil (olive oil, lard, or butter), and garlicView the SourcePljeskavica (Wikipedia)tier 3WikipediaUsed By: Pljeskavica, Infobox main_ingredient field: Two or more of beef, lamb, pork, veal; onions, sometimes bread crumbs and lardView the SourceFrybread - WikipediaUsed By: Frybread, Infobox main_ingredient field: Dough, leavening agent, fat (oil, shortening, or lard)View the SourceKotlet schabowy (Wikipedia)Used By: Kotlet schabowy, Infobox main_ingredient field: Pork or chicken or turkey, eggs, lard or oil, spices, breadcrumbs, flourView the SourceObwarzanek krakowski (Wikipedia)Used By: Obwarzanek krakowski, Infobox main_ingredient field: Wheat flour, fat (usually lard), yeast, sugar, saltView the SourceSeada (Wikipedia)Used By: Seada, Infobox main_ingredient field: Semolina, lard, pecorino sardo, olive oil, honey or sugarView the SourceTlayuda - WikipediaUsed By: Tlayuda, Infobox food/dish main_ingredient fieldView the SourceČvarci (Wikipedia)Used By: Čvarci, Lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Čvarci, Lead paragraphUnlike pork rinds, čvarak is not the intended product of its preparation, but a by-product created during the preparation of lard, cracklings left over when pig lard is melted down, and the fat is thermally separated from other tissue.View the SourcePani ca meusa (Wikipedia)Used By: Pani câ meusa, Lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Pani câ meusa, Lead paragraphIt is a dish typical of Palermo and it consists of a soft bread (locally called vastedda or vastella) topped with sesame, stuffed with chopped veal lung and spleen that have been boiled and then fried in lard.View the SourceComments (0)No comments yet.
