Nazook

Breads, Flatbreads and Savory Pastries

Nazook is a rolled Armenian dessert made from a dough of flour, butter, sugar, sour cream, yeast, vanilla extract, and eggs, rolled around a filling called khoriz, made from butter, sugar, and flour, combined with nuts, chiefly walnuts, and fresh, candied, or dried fruits such as plums, raisins, apricots, peaches, and berries. Some versions add lemon and cranberries to the filling, while others use cinnamon as the main filling ingredient, giving the result a resemblance to a cinnamon roll. Nazook is sometimes used interchangeably with the name of another Armenian pastry, gata.
