Sukiyaki

Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes

Sukiyaki is a Japanese dish prepared and served in the nabemono, or Japanese hot pot, style, consisting of meat, usually thinly sliced beef, slowly cooked or simmered at the table alongside vegetables and other ingredients in a shallow iron pot in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar and mirin. The cooked ingredients are typically dipped in a small bowl of raw, beaten egg before eating, and sukiyaki is generally a winter dish commonly found at bonenkai, Japanese year-end parties.
