Vepřo knedlo zelo

Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes

Vepřo knedlo zelo, whose name literally translates as pork, dumpling, sauerkraut, is one of the national dishes of the Czech Republic. It consists of three components plated separately: sliced roast pork, usually a lean cut, covered with its own juices; sliced potato or bread dumplings; and steamed sauerkraut, either white or occasionally red. The dish is believed to have German origins and is also commonly eaten in Slovakia and Austria, though it remains a signature item of Czech cuisine and a widely recognized symbol of the country's culinary tradition.
