Frangelico

Frangelico is an Italian hazelnut and herb flavored liqueur produced in Canale, in the Piedmont region, made from sugar, alcohol, hazelnut distillate and natural and artificial flavorings. It is bottled today at 20 percent alcohol by volume, lower than earlier versions that reached 24 percent and, under an earlier producer, the Barbaro family, 28 percent. The brand was created in 1978, and its maker credits the name, along with the bottle, whose distinctive shape resembles a friar in a habit tied with a cord, to a legend about a hermit monk called Fra Angelico who was said to have devised liqueur recipes in Piedmont. Ownership passed through William Grant and Sons and the C and C Group before Gruppo Campari purchased the brand in 2010.
