Ginger Beer

Ginger beer is a beverage flavored with ginger that originated in England in the mid eighteenth century as a fermented, mildly alcoholic drink, brewed using a living ginger beer plant culture of yeast and bacteria that ferments sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide. Traditional fermented ginger beer largely gave way over the twentieth century to modern commercial ginger beer, which is typically non-alcoholic, carbonated artificially rather than through fermentation, and considerably more strongly and sharply flavored with ginger than ordinary ginger ale. Ginger beer is a common mixer in cocktails, most notably the Moscow mule, and is also drunk on its own, especially in the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and parts of Africa.
