Margarita

The margarita is a cocktail made from tequila, orange liqueur such as triple sec or Cointreau, and lime juice, conventionally served in a glass with a salted rim. Its precise origin is disputed, with several competing claims placing its creation in Mexico or the southwestern United States in the nineteen thirties or nineteen forties, most crediting a bartender improvising a new drink for a specific customer named Margarita or Margaret. The margarita became especially popular in the United States from the mid twentieth century onward and is now one of the most widely ordered cocktails in North America, served both shaken and, in a later variation, blended with ice.
