Green Bean

Green beans are the young, unripe fruit of various cultivars of the common bean, also known by names including French beans, string beans and snap beans; despite the name, most modern varieties are stringless. Green beans are distinguished from other bean varieties by being harvested and eaten with their enclosing pods before the seeds inside have fully matured, a practice similarly applied to the immature pods of the runner bean, the yardlong bean and the hyacinth bean, and analogous to the harvest of unripened pea pods such as snow peas and sugar snap peas.
