Kersting's groundnut, Macrotyloma geocarpum, is an herbaceous annual legume and a crop of minor economic importance in sub-Saharan Africa, with characteristics similar to peanuts, high protein content and a favorable flavor. It is primarily produced in West Africa, especially Benin, and is known but not commonly grown in coastal nations from Senegal to Nigeria, with cultivation declining in areas such as southwestern Burkina Faso. The dried seeds are the crop's primary food product, providing about 19.4 grams of protein per 100 grams, and the plant's leaves can also be eaten as an additional food source.
