Little millet, Panicum sumatrense, is a small-seeded cereal grass cultivated across the hill and plateau regions of India, Nepal and parts of Southeast Asia. It is valued for its drought tolerance, short growing season and ability to thrive on poor soils where larger cereals struggle, making it an important subsistence crop in marginal farming areas. The grain is cooked much like rice, ground into flour for flatbreads, or fermented into traditional beverages, and it is naturally gluten-free and high in dietary fiber.
