Winged pea, also called asparagus pea, is Lotus tetragonolobus, an annual leguminous herb native to countries around the Mediterranean and introduced elsewhere, low growing with deep red flowers followed by longitudinally winged seed pods. It is cultivated for its edible green seed pods, eaten as a vegetable.
