Mie gomak

Noodle and Dumpling Dishes

Mie gomak is a Batak thick, spicy noodle soup dish served in a coconut milk and andaliman-based broth, a specialty of the Toba Batak region of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Beyond the traditional Batak lands surrounding Lake Toba, the dish is also a specialty of the Sibolga and Tapanuli areas. Unlike common Indonesian noodles, the noodle used in this dish is a thick variety called mie lidi, similar to spaghetti, which is why mie gomak is often described as Batak-style spaghetti; it is similar to mie Aceh from a neighboring province.
