The Brazil nut, Bertholletia excelsa, is a South American tree of the monotypic genus Bertholletia in the family Lecythidaceae, as well as the tree's commercially harvested edible seeds; the tree is among the largest and longest lived in the Amazon rainforest, and its fruit and shell enclosed nut together weigh about 2 kilograms. The nuts are valued nutritionally for their diverse micronutrient content, especially a high level of selenium, and the tree's wood is prized for fine carpentry, flooring and heavy construction. In 2024 global Brazil nut production reached 79,736 tonnes, with Brazil and Bolivia together supplying about 87 percent of the world total.
