Crostini, meaning little crusts, is an Italian antipasto of small slices of grilled or toasted bread served with toppings such as cheese, meat, vegetables and condiments, or simply brushed with olive oil and herbs or a sauce. The dish is believed to date to medieval times, when peasants commonly ate their meals off slices of bread rather than off ceramic plates.
