Refried beans

Refried beans, from the Spanish frijoles refritos, are a dish of cooked and mashed beans that is a traditional staple of Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisines and is also popular across Latin America. The beans are first boiled, then mashed into a paste, and fried or baked, though despite the English name they are only fried once. The name is in fact a mistranslation: the Spanish refritos means well fried or intensely fried rather than fried again.
