Leek

A leek is a biennial vegetable, a cultivar of the broadleaf wild leek, whose edible part is a bundle of leaf sheaths sometimes colloquially called a stem or stalk. The same genus, Allium, also contains the onion, garlic, shallot, scallion, chives and Chinese onion, and three closely related vegetables, elephant garlic, kurrat and Persian leek, are likewise cultivars of the leek's wild parent species, though used differently in cooking.
