Nasi liwet

Rice, Grain and Starch Dishes

Nasi liwet is a rice dish from Surakarta in Central Java, Indonesia, made by cooking rice in coconut milk with chicken broth, salam leaves, lemongrass and other spices to give it a rich, aromatic and succulent taste. It is served topped with sliced omelette, shredded chicken and kumut, a thick aromatic coconut cream, alongside side dishes such as opor ayam, chicken in a white coconut sauce, spiced boiled eggs, tempeh and chayote. Depending on the subdistrict, it is eaten for breakfast, lunch or supper.
