Putu Piring

Rice, Grain and Starch Dishes

Putu piring is a round steamed rice flour kueh of Singapore, made from finely ground rice or glutinous rice flour and filled with either ground peanuts and brown palm sugar or shredded coconut and sugar, steamed quickly in a distinctive flower shaped mold and served on pandan leaf. It is closely associated with Singapore Malay community, and its popularity grew through the 1980s once purpose built steam carts and steel molds allowed it to be sold as a street snack and later stocked in major supermarkets.
