A grilled cheese, also called a toasted cheese sandwich, cheese toastie or cheese jaffle, is a hot cheese sandwich typically made by placing cheese between slices of bread and cooking it with butter or mayonnaise on a frying pan, griddle or pie iron until the bread browns and the cheese melts. Despite the name it is rarely prepared through actual grilling.
