Ota Ika

Salads, Dips, Sandwiches and Fermented Cold Dishes

Ota Ika is an Oceanian dish of raw fish marinated in citrus juice and coconut milk, with closely related Tongan, Tahitian and Samoan versions that are essentially identical: the raw fish is briefly marinated in lemon or lime juice until the surface of the flesh turns opaque, then mixed with coconut milk and diced vegetables such as cucumber, tomato, carrots, onion, green onion and spicy peppers. It is the national dish of Tonga.
