Apple dumpling

Noodle and Dumpling Dishes

An apple dumpling is a baked or boiled pastry-wrapped apple. To prepare one, an apple is peeled, cored, and sometimes quartered before being placed on a portion of dough; the hollow left by the core may be filled with cinnamon, butter, and sugar, and sometimes dried fruit such as raisins, sultanas, or currants. The dough is then folded over the apple and sealed, and the dumpling is baked until tender, with the sugar and butter forming a sweet sauce as it cooks; a spiced sauce is sometimes poured over it as well. Apple dumplings can be served hot, cold, or at room temperature, and appear on tables as breakfast, dessert, or a main dish.
