Lazanki is a traditional flat pasta of Polish, Russian, Lithuanian and Belarusian cuisine, made from a wheat, rye or buckwheat dough rolled thin and cut into triangles or rectangles. After boiling, it is typically served with melted pork fat, vegetable oil and often sour cream, and Polish versions frequently add fried or soured cabbage along with sausage, meat or mushrooms. The dish has been known in Poland since the early Middle Ages and later throughout the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; one theory holds that its name ultimately derives from the Italian lasagne, reflecting the similar rectangular shape of the pasta.
