Soto ayam is a traditional Indonesian dish built around chicken, lontong rice cakes, noodles and rice vermicelli in a yellow broth colored and flavored with turmeric, and is one of the most popular variants of soto, the traditional soup found across Indonesian cuisine. It is also eaten in Singapore, Malaysia and Suriname, where it is called saoto, and is commonly served with hard boiled eggs, fried potato slices, Chinese celery leaves and fried shallots as garnish, sometimes with coconut milk added; toppings can include koya, a mixture of ground prawn crackers and fried garlic, or sambal, with krupuk or emping crackers and a side of raw vegetables called lalapan.
