Light Soup

Light soup is a local, indigenous soup of the Akan people of Ghana, called light because its dark-colored broth is thin. It began as a tomato-based seafood soup called nkra nkra prepared by fishermen on the coast of Accra, and over time evolved into a soup made with both fish and a meat such as goat, lamb or beef, or with meat alone; the GaDangme call it toolo wonu in the Ga language, and neighboring Akan communities call it aponkye nkrakra in Twi.
