Pastitsada is a Greek dish of meat, typically veal, beef or poultry, braised in a spicy tomato based sauce and served over pasta, traditionally a customary Sunday meal on the island of Corfu, where it is also called pastitsada Korfiatiki. Its name comes from the Venetian pastizzada, related to the standard Italian pasticciata, reflecting Italian culinary influence on the dish. It is seasoned with olive oil, onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, white wine, vinegar, cloves, bay leaf and cinnamon, and finished with grated kefalotyri or Parmesan cheese.
