Gai lan, also called kai-lan, Chinese broccoli or Chinese kale, is a leafy vegetable with thick, flat, glossy blue-green leaves, thick stems and florets similar to broccoli. A cultivar of Brassica oleracea in the alboglabra group, its flavor closely resembles that of broccoli but is noticeably stronger and slightly more bitter.
